Day 1 Rovaniemi
Arrival at the Rovaniemi airport and bus transfer to the capital of Finnish Lapland, situated a few kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, at the junction of the Kemijoki and Ounasjoki rivers. Enjoy the touch of the countryside and wilderness in this town, whose most prominent landmarks include the Jätkänkynttilä bridge with its eternal flame over the Kemijoki river, the Arktikum House, Rovaniemi town hall as well as the Lappia House, serving as a theatre, concert hall and congress centre. Day 2 Rovaniemi – Saariselkä 255 km
Your first destination is the Santa Claus village on the Arctic Circle. Traditional Lappish handicrafts are sold here and you can also meet the Santa Claus himself. You participate the Arctic Circle crossing ceremony, an exotic and unforgettable experience in a kota - a Lappish tepee - or in a pine branch lean-to. Sitting around the campfire on reindeer skin covered benches you will listen to the tales of old Lapland and understand the old customs and superstitions while having a sip of the magic drink made of reindeer milk. As a proof of the crossing you will receive an Arctic Circle Certificate with your name on it.
The journey continues over Sodankylä to the Saariselkä area in the Inari municipality. Inari is known for the Lemmenjoki goldfields, the indigenous Sami population and widely practised reindeer herding. The pearl of the region is the beautiful and deep Lake Inari, scattered with islands.
Day 3 Saariselkä – Honningsvåg 405 km
Today you drive via Kaamanen and Karigasniemi towards the Norwegian boarder. Your next destination is Karasjok, an important Sami municipality. This part of Norway is called Finnmark, and it’s a borderland between Norwegian, Sami and Finnish languages and cultures. Next you reach Lakselv and continue to Kåfjord following the edge of the magnificent Porsangerfjorden, surrounded by glaciers. From Kåfjord you drive through the undersea tunnel to North Cape Island Mageröy and Honningsvåg. After check-in to your hotel its time to visit the North Cape and the North Cape Hall. Standing on the steep North Cape cliff and gazing out across the vast Arctic Ocean coloured by the midnight sun is a breathtaking scenic experience, an adventure most people dream of.
Day 4 Honningsvåg – Kolari 545 km
Return through the tunnel to the continent. You pass Alta, famous for its rock carvings, and drive further to Kautokeino, a small Sami municipality with 3000 inhabitants and 100.000 reindeer, before arriving to Kolari.
Day 5 Kolari – Rovaniemi 165 km
Today your bus brings you to Rovaniemi airport for the flight home.
